Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Cosmitra, Vedic astrology, and how your data is handled.
- Cosmitra is an AI-powered Vedic astrology guide. It reads your birth chart using a real astronomical engine and answers your questions about life, love, career, and timing in plain language, available anytime.
- Yes, you can start for free. The free Explorer plan includes a basic birth chart, daily cosmic weather, and a set of starter chat messages. Paid plans unlock unlimited chat, detailed readings, forecasts, compatibility, and reports.
- Cosmitra is built on Vedic (sidereal) astrology, using the Lahiri ayanamsa and traditional techniques like dashas and nakshatras. This differs from Western (tropical) astrology in how signs are calculated, so your Vedic rising sign and placements may not match a Western horoscope.
- Planetary positions are calculated precisely using established astronomical methods. Astrological interpretation, however, is for guidance, reflection, and entertainment. Cosmitra is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice.
- Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through Stripe. You can cancel anytime from your billing page, and you keep access until the end of the current billing period, after which the account reverts to the free plan. No long-term contract is required.
- Your birth details and conversations are stored securely and encrypted. We do not sell your personal data, and your private information is never used to train external AI models. You can review the details in our privacy and terms pages.
- A dasha is a Vedic planetary period: a span of time ruled by a particular planet that shapes the themes you experience. Cosmitra tracks your current dasha and sub-periods to explain timing for major life events.
- A nakshatra is one of the 27 lunar mansions, or segments of the zodiac, that the Moon moves through. Your birth nakshatra adds a deeper layer of personality and timing detail beyond your Moon sign.
- We're a team of technologists based in Miami and India who grew up with Vedic astrology, and we built Cosmitra to bring real engineering rigor to a 5,000-year-old tradition. Read our full story on the Who We Are page.
- Not really. A general chatbot like ChatGPT can define a dasha or a nakshatra, but it cannot compute your chart: it has no ephemeris and often guesses placements or picks the wrong zodiac. Cosmitra runs a real Swiss Ephemeris engine, so every answer is read from your actual computed chart, not invented.
- The astronomy is exact: Cosmitra computes planetary positions with Swiss Ephemeris precision on the sidereal Lahiri zodiac, so placements, dashas, and nakshatras are calculated, never guessed. Interpretation is a different matter. Astrology is an interpretive tradition offered for reflection and guidance, not a scientifically proven predictor of specific events.
- A mahadasha is a major planetary period in Vedic astrology, the longest chapter in the Vimshottari dasha cycle, ruled by one of the nine grahas. It can span six to twenty years and colors the overarching themes of that stretch of life. Cosmitra tracks your current mahadasha and its sub-periods to explain your timing.
- Yes. In India, Cosmitra offers one-time UPI passes instead of auto-renewing subscriptions, so you pay once for access rather than committing to a recurring plan. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Prices vary by region and change over time, so check the pricing page for the current options where you are.
- Yes. Cosmitra is a web app, so you can add it to your phone's home screen from your browser and it opens like a native app, no app store needed. You can also enable notifications to receive your daily guidance. Our step-by-step guide on the blog walks through it for iPhone and Android.
- The full PDF report runs 25 or more pages and includes your divisional charts, planetary dignities, aspects, a house-by-house analysis, a 120-year dasha timeline, and your life chapters. A free sample report is available to browse first, so you can see the depth before unlocking your own complete report.
- Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons; Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the fixed stars, with a Lahiri correction of roughly 24 degrees. Because of that shift, a planet Western astrology places in one sign, a Vedic chart often places in the previous one. Vedic also adds nakshatras and dashas.
- You need your date of birth, your exact time of birth, and your place of birth. The birth time matters most: it sets your rising sign and house placements, which shape the whole chart. If your time is uncertain, Cosmitra can still compute a chart, but a precise time makes the reading far more accurate.
